Health & Safety at AMK

Health and Safety (H&S) is of great importance at Ambuja Foundation. Across programmes, H&S is carefully adhered to. Ambuja Manovikas Kendra, a school in Ropar, Punjab that caters to children and adolescents with intellectual disabilities, takes H&S seriously — going beyond basic requirements like wheelchairs, ramps and railings to ensure health and safety at the institute:

  • Monthly Health & Hygiene Check Ups: A medical doctor is invited monthly for routine check-ups of students. An Immunization and MMR schedule is shared with parents to ensure timely vaccinations. Polio drops are also provided at school during Polio week.

  • Safety Training: Frequent safety training sessions with audio-visuals are organized for students and staff by the Health and Safety Team at Ambuja Cements. Safety meetings are also arranged for parents and community members to sensitize them about the needs of special children.

  • Safety Storage: To protect vulnerable students, storage cabinets containing gardening tools, cleaning materials, hazardous equipment, and electronics are kept at a distance. Regular repair and maintenance are done for electronics and equipment in skill training centres, physiotherapy and speech therapy rooms.

  • Field and Vehicle Testing: Monthly checks of electrical wiring and sockets are conducted, with immediate repairs if needed. Under the Safe Vahan Policy, school buses are daily checked for compliance (bus color, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, CCTV camera). Separate parking is provided for parents and teachers, and two-wheeler riders are encouraged to wear helmets and carry documents.

  • Security: CCTV cameras and watch guards are on campus, and visitor security checks are thorough. AMK ensures 100% safety for children through these practices.

  • Insurance: AMK has a Student Safety Package Insurance Policy covering mishaps during school hours. Coverage includes ₹1 lakh per child, ₹5 lakh for accidents, and ₹5,000 for medical expenses. Students are trained on fire drills and assembly points for emergencies.

  • COVID-19 Interventions: Staff maintain frequent contact with parents to understand students’ well-being during the pandemic. Regular precaution messages, videos, and weekly Zoom meetings guide families on safety practices. Special care is advised for children prone to fits or epilepsy.

  • Fumigation: To avoid insects or animals harming children, regular fumigation is carried out in the campus gardens and institute. During COVID-19, sanitization and fumigation are done before staff entry, and safety guidelines are strictly followed.
    • 617 beneficiaries in the communities have received safety messages on COVID-19 from the AMK staff.
    • 31 staff members and families have enrolled for the COVID-19 insurance program.
    • 117 students and families of AMK have been reached during the pandemic.

  • HIRA & SOT: The Health and Safety team at Ambuja Cements conducts frequent Hazard Identification & Risk Assessments (HIRA) at AMK and provides necessary action plans and Safety Observation Tools to follow with regard to infrastructure or any risk/hazardous equipment.
