In a proud moment for community-led agriculture, Bhu Amrit Farmer Producer Company Ltd., facilitated by Ambuja Foundation and supported by Ambuja Cements, won the FPO Impact Award (FPO of the Year 2025 – Small Category) at the Livelihood India Summit. The award was presented by the Chairman of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development and the CEO of Access Development Services, recognising the FPO’s contribution to strengthening farmer livelihoods through sustainable agriculture.
A Decade of Building Organic Farming
The journey of Bhu Amrit began in 2010, when Ambuja Foundation initiated organic farming promotion in Bhagwanpur block, Uttarakhand. What started with just 50 farmers gradually grew into a strong Farmer Producer Organisation working across the entire value chain, from organic production and certification to aggregation and market linkages.
Over the years, the FPO has strengthened organic practices through soil improvement methods such as decomposer preparation, mulching and green manuring, along with natural pest management techniques. Continuous capacity building, including training for farmers and board members, exposure visits, and inputs on business strategy, has helped the organisation strengthen governance systems, market aggregation and record-keeping processes.
Faced with limited market demand for raw organic produce, the farmers took a bold step: they created a range of value-added products, launching their brand. Their product line today includes jaggery, jaggery powder, wheat flour, cane sugar, mustard oil, lentils, honey, and many more.
The FPO’s efforts earned them the title of "Best FPO of the State" by the State govt. In 2020, the best FPO in the Organic category in Grameen Mahotsav in 2025 and now the FPO of the year award. Furthermore, farmers interactive sessions and advocacy earned a few of them a role as a representative of farmers for the local Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) for delivering their experiences and agriculture information transfer in institutes like IIT, elevating the impact through institutional recognition.
Growing in Strength
From 50 farmers in 2010 to 500 organic farmers today, Bhu Amrit Farmer Producer Company has grown into a vibrant network promoting safe, natural and sustainable agriculture. Being recognised as FPO of the Year reflects years of consistent effort, from farmers adopting improved practices to collective decision-making and stronger market engagement.
