Tackling Diabetes - With mDiabetes & World Diabetes Day

Ambuja Foundation is tackling Diabetes through an association with mDiabetes - circulating information through pre-recorded messages on mobile phones about diabetes prevention, nutrition and lifestyle modifications to the community along with other efforts.

To value-add these efforts, November 14 saw the global observance of World Diabetes Day and to mark the day, Ambuja Foundation Dadri organised a health awareness camp to generate awareness and identify at risk and affected populations.

Diabetes and high blood pressure are some of the crucial metabolic risk factors for deaths worldwide and affect one in 20 adults in rural India. Thus, Ambuja Fouundation particularly highlights diabetes as one of its health program interventions under its NCD prevention campaign considering the severity of the disease. Keeping in mind the critical threat to rural India caused by NCD's in terms of health and economy, Ambuja Foundation will always strive to create pilots around important health issues with cost effective models to address the rural population and help people savour the sweetness of being in fine fettle.

Ankur Agarwal (Ambuja Cement's Unit Head- Dadri) with Mohan Srivastava (Manager S&D Ambuja Cements Limited) jointly inaugurated the camp and went on to address the significance of regular diabetes checkups and discuss preventive as well as curative measures of the disease. The camp, organized at the truck yard, successfully screened 87 members including truckers, workers and staff.

The World Diabetes Day tributes the birthday of Frederick Banting who co-invented insulin along with Charles Best in 1922. Commemorating this day was an initiative of The International Federation of Diabetes with an aim to increase awareness among the masses about effects and complications of the disease and encourage people to lead a healthy lifestyle.
