A Walk Toward Wellness

Daily walks are considered to be a good remedy for maintaining blood sugar levels, hypertension, improve heart health, weight management and overall well-being. This was encouraged in the community and at nutrition centres by Ambuja Foundation’s health volunteers.

Walking groups began to appear in the community of Mehma Sawai with groups walking in the mornings and evenings. Some women would also walk to the Gurudwara in the morning getting their step count and receive blessings. Community members claimed that they didn’t know the benefit of walking until they started to add it to their routine.

They felt much lighter, energy levels were up and there was a positive mindset shift as well. Even doing households chores were not a burden. They started reducing sugar consumption and gently nudging others to do so.

Though some claim that there isn’t a shift to the diet, walking alone has led to noticeable improvements. Now one can see groups of men and women walking and not only that, children too. Beneficiaries have also claimed that walking daily makes the day go better too. Its part of us now.
