The women in Mehma Sawai village were having a lot of issues with their health, and also with Primary Health Centre located 4 kms away, lack of transportation, they were bound to neglect health. Diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases and the Punjabi diet was slowly wreaking a havoc.
Ambuja Foundation decided to do something about it. They established a health & nutrition centre in the heart of the village, to act as a focal point for educating people about food and health. Renovating the place provided by the panchayat, activity commenced with a variety of sessions.
Rajinder, the health volunteer started to invite people to the centre, she went door to door distributing seeds for kitchen gardening and encouraging people to come to the centre.
The centre became an integral part of the community, with regular street plays, sports events and rallies to keep health at the top of mind of community members.
Today there are 2 health and nutrition centres in the area with a continuous flow of community members visiting, attaining knowledge and making lifestyle modifications.
