Various sector employers in Delhi struggle to find adequately skilled workers. Marginalized groups, such as women and youth from low-income backgrounds, face barriers in accessing skills due to socio-economic constraints and limited awareness.
Ambuja Foundation, with support from partner HDFC Bank Parivartan, has been operating one Skill & Entrepreneurship Development Institute (SEDI) in the Shahdara district of Delhi since 2024. The program objective is to enhance youth employability by offering industry-relevant, skill-based training that leads to gainful employment or self-employment opportunities. Each year, the SEDI trains approximately 600 youth, equipping them with practical skills in high-demand trades such as Assistant Electrician/RACW, General Duty Assistant (GDA), Assistant Beauty Therapist, and Future Skills (Python, MI & AI/DS). This initiative directly addresses the skill gap in urban Delhi and empowers young individuals to build sustainable careers in a rapidly evolving job market.

Vikky, a young man from an urban slum, dreamed of working in the healthcare sector but lacked the necessary background and guidance. His life changed when a mobilizer from the Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Institute (SEDI) introduced him to the General Duty Assistant (GDA) training program. Through the course, he gained essential patient care skills and developed positive habits like confidence, discipline, and improved communication. After completing his training, Vikky secured a job at Max Vaishali Hospital, earning ₹14,000 per month. He is thankful to SEDI and HDFC Parivartan for making him skilled, confident, and employable.

Anju, a 22-year-old from Pratap Nagar, Delhi, always had a passion for electrical work—an unconventional choice for a young woman. Determined to break stereotypes and follow her interest, she enrolled in a three-month Assistant Electrician course at SEDI Shahdara. There, she mastered wiring, circuit installation, safety protocols, and hands-on troubleshooting under expert guidance. With support from the placement cell, Anju secured a role as an Apprentice – Industrial Electrician at Paharpur 3P Pvt. Ltd., earning ₹16,000 per month including benefits. Today, she supports her family and proves that technical trades are not limited by gender.
