Leena Sahu from Bhatapara, Chattisgarh was the only person from her village to undergo training in retail management at SEDI Bhatapara. But after completing her course and being immediately placed at Westside with a salary of Rs. 12,000 per month, her community was shocked with her success. Gradually people started to sign up for training. Pursuing a variety of trade, 5 then 10, then 20, today over 60 youngsters are following Leena’s brave footsteps and moving forward towards developing a career.

Ambuja Foundation's SEDI is breaking gender stereotypes, smashing them in fact, by training girls in male dominated trades like electronics, welding and RAC. And these girls are going forward as role models, inspiring many other girls from their communities to follow suit and pursue lucrative opportunities and careers as a result of skill training.

Hundreds of disabled youth are getting jobs, starting businesses and earning – thanks to SEDI. Whether it be Idrish Jokyiya from Rajasthan, who lost both his arms in an accident; or Nrishingha Malik from West Bengal who is both deaf and dumb – SEDI has helped over 270 disabled youth to learn a skill, kickstart their own enterprise and generate incomes to support their families.

At Ambuja Foundation we believe entrepreneurship to be a key driver of rural prosperity in the future. To help develop entrepreneurs at the grassroots level, and equip them with the skills necessary for success, Ambuja Foundation’s SEDI has been nurturing entrepreneurs since inception, and recently formally launched its Enterprise Development Program. As a result, over 30,000 micro and small enterprises have been established, providing much needed services in remote communities and providing flourishing livelihoods to their founders.

SEDI graduates are further supported via an Alumni Chapter - formed as a platform for all Alumni placed in the same region to connect and support one another. Connecting graduates via a Whatsapp Group, students become a force for inclusion, bonding, and career advancement. The Alumni act as a social support system in settling them into their accommodation, advising them on travel and transport and also introducing the culture of the area.
