OUR PRESENCE Haryana

THE CHALLENGES

Haryana may have a growing economy and rising income levels, but it still faces serious social and environmental challenges. Water shortage is a big problem, mainly because of too much use of groundwater for farming, along with fast urban growth and climate change. In rural areas, people still struggle to get good healthcare, education, and job opportunities, which makes development uneven across the state.

Agriculture in Haryana is facing problems like poor soil health, falling crop production, and growing the same crops again and again. This makes it hard for small farmers to earn a good living. In villages, women face many challenges—they often cannot move freely, don’t get enough training, and have fewer chances to earn money or become financially independent.

Ambuja Foundation has been working to strengthen the livelihoods of small and marginal farmers by promoting sustainable agriculture and efficient water management practices. By forming and supporting farmer clubs, the Foundation encourages peer learning, better access to markets, and the adoption of improved farming techniques. Farmers are regularly trained on soil health, water-efficient practices, and sustainable crop management. Farm machinery tool banks have been introduced to reduce labor costs and improve productivity, while demonstration plots promote organic and low-cost methods to enhance soil fertility. The Foundation also supports the installation of micro-irrigation systems to conserve water and boost yields. In addition, it facilitates exposure visits, skill-building programs, and linkages with government schemes—helping rural communities move towards climate-smart, resilient farming systems.
