While observers report that since the 1980s, each decade has been warmer than the previous one, the year 2024 recorded the world’s hottest period due to climate change.

As we mark World Earth Day 2025, it’s the perfect moment to spotlight the role of solar energy in transforming rural India—not just environmentally, but socially and economically as well. With climate change looming and traditional resources depleting, clean, alternate and renewable energy isn’t just an ideal—it’s a lifeline. Across villages in India, solar power is reshaping daily life, making communities more resilient, self-reliant, and future-ready.

Ambuja Manovikas Kendra (AMK), a dedicated education institution for the children with special needs in Ropar, Punjab, commemorated its 25th anniversary on Wednesday with a vibrant and heartfelt celebration. The youthful event was infused with an atmosphere of joy, laughter, and exuberance, as students, parents, and supporters gathered to honor the school's remarkable journey of 25 years and unwavering commitment to service.

The young yellow belts posed for photographs, eyes shining, certificates held up proudly. Fourteen of them – five girls and nine boys – had participated in the second international karate championships 2024, organised by the World Nakayama Shotokan Association, in Hyderabad. They were students of the ZP Upper Primary School of Upparwahi in Chandrapur, Maharashtra. They had just won one Gold, five Silvers, and seven Bronzes. After just 36 karate classes, which the children had attended most enthusiastically, their instructor had felt they were ready to show their prowess. No doubt, they were.

Rajeev Gautam is a stalwart of India’s education system, having served as a teacher and principal for over 35 years. As the Principal of the Government Senior Secondary School (GSSS) in Darlaghat, he is passionate about education, and a testament to this is the fact that his own son has just been accepted at IIM Ahmedabad.

Not only this, students from AMK have now won this honour at the event for the sixth time in row.
